REVIEW: Shut Up and Play the Hits
Finally saw this movie after a while. My friend realized that he’d bought a blu ray a while back. I like James Murphy. I like LCD. I understand why he wanted to pull the plug on the band before their material started to slack. I guess he also just didn’t like touring that much which is hard to imagine if you’ve spent your entire life trying to be in a band which is what it sounds like he did.
Shut up and play the hits sounds to me like he got tied up in some corporate tug of war for creative freedom, but I think it really comes down to him quieting the constant chattering in the back of his head about whether his band will stand the test of time or not. Really good flick overall. Definitely watch the extended features with the Klostermann interview and Catching up with Keith. If you’ve seen if you’ll know what I mean.
