Show Preview & Interview: Young Girls
We’ve had these guys on our radar for a while now. We heard that they were opening up for the Drums a while back when we were listening heavily to the Drums EP, Summertime!. Gave them a listen a while back on Myspace and really liked what we heard. They’ve been in and out of action for a couple years it seems like, but they’re beefing up their playing as of late. They’ll be coming to the Parish Underground tonight along with Empire Machines and 3D Friends. Their music is pretty simple, and focused on the glory, impermanence, and immediacy of youth. Just how we like our indie pop bands here at the Fuss dot us. You can stream 2012′s “Animals” below the interview. Get to know them tonight before you shell out the 5 clams to see them.
Fussus: When/how did Young Girls form?
YG: We formed in 2010
Fussus: What (if any) pre-show drinking rituals do you guys have?
YG: Well that’s it, that’s the ritual, drinking.
Fussus: Which band(s) that have come up in the last 5 years do you most respect?
YG: Beach fossils, king tough,Shannon and the clams, hunx and his punx and I know this doesn’t count but that new Devendra Banhart record is great!
Fussus: Assemble your band dream team that features a singer, guitarist, bassist, drummer, and one other person. Go:
YG: John, Paul,Gorge and Ringo
Fussus: How would you compare the Austin scene to what is going on in Houston?
YG: I’d say Austin has a very garage/raw sound and Houston is a bit more pop. Our band falls somewhere in the middle.
